Dr. Kristin Burr, H.BKin, DC

Dr. Kristin Burr Rempel obtained her chiropractic degree from the world renowned Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from Brock University in St. Catharines, where she completed an intensive athletic therapy internship. She is Active Release Techniques® and Graston Technique certified.
Dr. Burr has helped many people return to their every-day activities pain-free by using a combination of proven treatment methods and spending ample time in each treatment. Dr. Burr has been described as “not your typical chiropractor”, using her advanced physiotherapy and personal training skills, along with gentle chiropractic technique.
During a decade of post-secondary education, Dr. Burr was trained by top sport and rehabilitation specialists, enabling her to combine the myriad benefits of chiropractic with athletic therapy, rehabilitation and sports injury management. Dr. Burr has trained directly under Thomas Myers, developer of The Anatomy Trains and Fascial Release Technique, as well as Dr. P. Michael Leahy, the developer of Active Release Techniques. She has studied and practices the methods of Gray Cook (Functional Movement Screen), Dr. Craig Liebenson (Rehabilitation of the Spine, Rehabilitation of the Athlete, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization), Dr. Stuart McGill (Low Back Disorders, Ultimate Back & Fitness Performance), the Buchberger "12" methods of shoulder rehabilitation, as well as Burkhart & Kibler's Dysfunctional Throwing Shoulder series. One of her favourite treatment techniques is Yoga TuneUp developed by Jill Miller.
As well as being a "spinal expert", Dr. Burr has had great success in rehabilitation of hip and pelvis problems, foot and ankle dysfunctions, and other upper and lower limb disorders in both athletes, and general population.
Her undergraduate honours thesis, and graduate research studies were based on the Warton and Mattes methods of Active Isolated Stretching, and she presented at the Canadian Sports Medicine Conference on this topic.
Dr. Burr has been working with and treating athletes of all levels since 2003, from tykes and amateurs up to Olympians and professionals. She has been part of the medical teams at multiple national and international sports competitions, including:
-Canadian National Track and Field championships
-Canadian National Senior & Junior Wrestling championships
-Ontario Cheerleading championships
-Ontario Rugby training camps
-Medical staff director for the Ontario Wrestling Championships
Dr. Burr was one of the team therapists for the Brock University varsity wrestling and rugby teams, as well as members of the national and provincial level sports teams. She has experience working with professional and amateur athletes in various sports such as rugby, wrestling, golf, running, triathlon, hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, competitive dance and basketball. Dr. Burr has a passion for treatment and prevention of overuse and traumatic injuries in youth and child athletes. Dr. Burr provides comprehensive biomechanical running analysis as well as Functional Movement Screens to identify areas of weakness and prevent injury before it occurs.
Dr. Burr played rugby up to the varsity level, and was an elite equestrian athlete. Since retiring from competitive sport, her main passion is Yoga, studying and practicing both hatha and kundalini. She also loves reformer pilates, and plans to certify and bring this therapy to LHP in the near future. Off the mat, she enjoys touring cycling, photography, exploring and loving life in the Niagara region, and has recently developed a “green thumb”. She resides in Niagara with her husband, 3 adopted children, 2 very active springer spaniels, and one very grumpy old cat.
